The
new 2008 Honda Pilot LX and EX offer a
240 hp. 3.5 Ltr VTEC V 6 engine which provides plenty of torque
across a wide range of rpm. The new Honda Pilot's VTEC valve
train adjusts the timing and duration and lift of the intake
valves according to engine speed. The engine's induction intake
and exhaust systems have been optimized to deliver optimum airflow
at all speeds. The new Pilot's VTM 4 electronic control unit
constantly monitors speed and road conditions. When cruising
or braking and the new 2008 Honda Pilot operates in
front wheel drive only for maximum fuel efficiency. The VTM
4 ECU detects wheel spin before it happens.
The
ECU then calculates the best power split between the front and
rear axles and engages four wheel drive. To transmit four wheel
drive power, many other SUV's use a bulky transfer case that adds
weight complexity and added gear noise, while decreasing fuel
economy and vehicle balance. The LX and the EX have a VTM 4 Variable
Torque Management system takes a different, more sophisticated
approach. First, there is no transfer case. This immediately results
in less weight, complexity, noise and fuel usage. A 5-speed automatic
transmission features Grade Logic Control.
The new 2008 Honda Pilot s transmission uses the engine's broad torque
curve for acceleration, optimal fuel economy and smooth shifting
characteristics. All models are equipped with 16" wheels.
Styled steel wheels are standard on the Pilot LX. Alloy wheels
are standard on the new 2008 Honda Pilot EX models. All
Season P 235/70 R16 104 S tires are standard on all models.
The
new 2008 Honda Pilot LX EX engine burns so lean that
the new Honda Pilot is rated as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle
in states with CA emissions standards and as a Low Emission
Vehicle under federal state standards. Honda Pilot's Multi Point
Programmed. The new Honda PCM's instantly calculates the engine
fuel requirements and activates each fuel injector at precisely
the right moment. Honda Pilot's VTEC engine enhances the SUV's
broad torque characteristics and reduces exhaust emissions.
Ordinary engines have one mode of operation for the valvetrain
at all engine speeds. The new Pilot's VTEC offers 2 distinct
modes for the intake valves for improved response throughout
the rpm's wide range and Pilot's power availability.
In
the event of a moderate to severe side impact, the side airbag
( on the new 2008 Honda Pilot EX LX ) inflates to help
protect the driver's or front passenger's upper body. Honda
took this safety technology a step further than its competitors
with its Occupant Position Detection System. The system utilizes
sensors in the front passenger seatback to detect the height
and seating position of the occupant. If a child, or adult is
leaning into the path of the side airbag sensors deactivate
it. The front and rear crush zones provide driver and passenger
protection in moderate to severe full frontal and offset-frontal
impacts. The side impact door beams help provide protection
in a side impact, all seats are equipped with three point seat
belts. The 2nd row seats feature the LATCH which is also known
as the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children mounting system
for use with compatible child seats.
